Technology in a crisis

I’m taking a quick break from planning my trip to mention some great news I just learned.

My friend and consultant, Erik Hersman has been on a roll lately. His Web site, Afrigadget , which features technology news in Africa was recently listed on Time Magazine’s 50 best Web sites for 2008. Today, his other Web site, Ushahidi which is Swahili for “testimony”, was listed on Technology Review’s top ten start up Web site’s to watch. http://www.technologyreview.com/Biztech/20923/page5/ Exciting stuff!

This type of reporting would have been very helpful during my time working for FEMA during Hurricane Katrina as mentioned in this post.

Erik has helped our organization develop a social media strategy for our staff located around the world. I’m looking forward to implementing the plan and watching what happens as we proactively use social media.
