Small world after all
I have arrived in Hilton Head. I checked into my hotel (nothing to brag about) early this afternoon which I found on priceline because I had no social media recommendations (bummer.) Anyway, I hung out at the pool this afternoon, the sun drained me, so I went back to my room and crashed. This is pretty typical of how my vacations usually begin. It must be a mental thing where I concede to myself that I am on vacation and then my body says, cool, I am too.
So, I went “downtown” Hilton Head, which is called Coligny Plaza. Not a typical downtown, more like an outdoor mall with character. It has plenty of restaurants and shops and a cheesy internet cafe. I was craving some seafood, so I stumbled upon Steamer’s Seafood. It took me a minute to get my bearings…for a second, I thought I was in Bowling Green, Ky. There were WKU red towels everywhere. The entire restaurant was decorated with WKU memorabilia. Crazy. If you go, you must have the seafood platter which is king crab legs, buckets of steamed oysters, fried shrimp and their world famous Bull Bites. They have live music out on the patio, it is a good place despite my bias. I turned to the left and met a lady from southeastern Kentucky. We talked for a bit and then I turned to my other left… a couple from Louisville. I said to the bartender, “Am I in Hilton Head or Kentucky?” He laughed and said that many Kentuckians vacationed in Hilton Head and would stop into Steamer’s because the owner is a WKU graduate…and is not ashamed of it. Me either.
I wasn’t able to do much sight seeing because I was mostly unwinding. I’m off to Greenville in the morning, or whenever I get around to it. It’s nice not to have an agenda. Hope to post some videos of the traffic circles, Steamer’s, and that’s about all I got today. Maybe more from Greenville…stay tuned. And if you have suggestions of places to see (eat) along the way, please comment.

Oh, that is very cool. I must remember that place if I’m ever in Hilton Head. Thanks for posting!
